It is ultra contemporary, classy and its sleekness just draws you in. Secondly, this story takes place in New York City, and as a former NYC commuter and dweller, I found the references to city landmarks, street names, etc. If you are looking for a contemporary romance with a devilish twist, this book is for you! Dating the Devil by Lia Romeo is an emotional, yet sometimes comical view of romance.
It is well written and the characters with one exception are real and relatable. In all honesty, I was not really into the book at the beginning, however as the storyline unfolded, I began to like it. She lives with her two best friends from college, Natalie and Melissa, in an upscale apartment in Manhattan. Lucy and Melissa work hard and play hard, while Natalie works a little and parties a lot.
These women are looking for love, stability and security. One evening, while on the prowl in a dive bar, Lucy meets her soul-mate, Lewis. Unfortunately for Lucy, Lewis is not what he seems. He is unique and his uniqueness is difficult for Lucy to navigate.

Interim Writers is a collective dedicated to fostering Boston playwrights. Here, the writer shares insights on prose vs. You just published a new novel, Dating the Devil. How early in your creative process do you know whether an idea better fits the prose or playwriting format? I usually know right away … for one thing, the scope is totally different, because realistically, in order for a new play to get produced it really helps for it to be limited to six or fewer characters or at least six or fewer actors.
But I also approach the two really differently … I turn to theater when I feel like I have something serious to say though I usually try to say it in a comic way , whereas I tend to use fiction to indulge my love of genre like chick lit, which is what my first novel is and approach it more lightheartedly. Where did Reality come from?
I know how completely ridiculous it is, and yet every season I tune in and watch every episode. The worst? Computer, longhand, or typewriter? My handwriting is terrible, so I started typing when I was about eight, and now I type over words per minute. How many revisions does your work typically go through?

Lewis looks at me hard for a moment in the darkness, then nods. So you ve figured the whole thing out, he says ruefully. You re Yeah, he says. Say it, I say in a trembling voice. I want you to say it. He reaches over and switches his bedside lamp on, and suddenly the room is flooded with warm light. Then he looks back at me and shrugs. I m Satan, he says. He looks so boyishly vulnerable, sitting there shirtless amidst the rumpled sheets, one sock on and one off, blinking sleep out of his blue eyes, that I want to laugh.
Of course, I also want to cry.

No matter how hard we try to convince ourselves that life is a bowl of cherries, the truth is most of the cherries are sour and life basically sucks. Brand new InViolet Lia Romeo tells us about why all playwrights should do literary management work, how she likens trying acting to trying cocaine and how her book inspired countless emo teens to post youtube videos of themselves reciting her words while lounging in bathtubs. InViolet: How do you identify in the theater world? Lia: Pretty much exclusively as a playwright. I did a bit of acting when I was in college, and I felt very similar to the way I felt about trying cocaine — that was a lot of fun, and I never want to do it again.
InViolet: You are a brand new InViolet. Tell us what your InViolet journey has been like so far. I got to meet some of the InViolet folks when I was part of the Brooklyn Generator in , which was a great experience. So I was excited to have the chance to get more involved when InViolet started doing Second Monday Social this past year. She invited me to come on the retreat this past summer, and then to join the company in the fall.
InViolet: Got a favorite InViolet memory yet? Everyone in the company is really, ridiculously nice, and Angela and Michael have created this genuinely supportive and encouraging community. What was that whole experience like? Lia: Amazing! InViolet: In addition to being a published Playwright, you can add novelist and humor book author to your list of accomplishments!
